Our Unique Selling Proposition for BJJ Athletes

Wednesday started off early as I woke up and took Champ outside for his morning walk. Once we got back inside I started writing my story for the day before I got something to eat. I wanted to finish writing to get that completed first or else I know I would put it off and not get done.

I had a protein shake and some fruit to get me started for the day. Not long after that I packed Champ up and headed into the gym to get some work done. The first thing I had to do was to get my online client’s meal plan done for the remainder of the week. I spent a lot of time looking at the foods she was already eating and combining that with the Precision Nutrition approach of just making each meal just a little bit better. I don’t want to completely overhaul her plan and what she is already doing. She has a good foundation and is putting together solid meals already so the best thing to do is just improve what she is already doing. Making one small change here and there so that she can do those changes consistently. Consistency is key, not perfection. So I made those small changes for the later part of the week and then sent it over to her.

Once I sent that over to her I got set up in my office as I had a zoom call with my Online Trainer Academy coach. On this call we were going to go over what is called our Unique Selling Proposition (USP). It is a one line statement for the people that we help and what they help them with. As this is going to be part of our online offering for the gym, we are going to build a 13 week program for BJJ athletes. So we got to talking on the call about who we are targeting and what we are going to help the BJJ athletes with. A lot of our guys are interested in competing or have competed in the past so one thing this program will do is to help them get in competition shape. The other benefit is going to be improving strength so that we can flow better during practice and matches. So we came up with, “I help BJJ athletes get stronger & flow properly to give them the competitive edge.” We were both happy with it for now with the understanding that before we finalized it I would talk it over with TJ and the rest of the team.

After the call I got a workout in. I had Champ with me at the gym and he followed me around from exercise to exercise as I worked back and biceps. I have increased my training intensity this week and I feel great. I’m feeling stronger and I am eating a whole lot better as well. Starting to see the results almost immediately which I am happy about.

After working out the team started getting there for practice. We started practice with our breathing exercise which is becoming a staple of the program as we all love it and helps us all get ready for practice and relax our bodies and mind. From there we recapped what we went over Monday and we had some of the guys who were at practice Monday teach what we went over to the rest of the class. Having people teach what they learn helps reinforce the learning and helps them develop the skill. Everybody enjoys taking turns and teaching. We went over some new guard passes in class and drilled those over and over. Then we finished up class with our usual short matches. As always I stayed after class to get some extra rolls in with the guys. They were going great and I was learning a lot from everyone. Unfortunately at the end I dislocated my finger and had to stop to pop it back in real quick. Luckily it went right back in and didn’t have any more issues with it after the pain the rest of the night. I iced it when I got home and other than being a little stiff now it’s all good.

More importantly after we finished rolling we sat around and talked about the USP and what they thought of it and helped us narrow it down a little bit. They gave us a lot of valuable insight into what they would want out of the program which is exactly what we want because these are the type of people we are trying to target and help. We want to start with the team and people similar to those on the team. What problems can we help them solve? How can we make them better BJJ athletes? How can we help them eliminate pain while rolling? That is what we are looking for. We spent almost 45 minutes going over that stuff with them which I can’t express enough how grateful we are for their time and effort to help us!

After that one of our friends wanted to take TJ and I out for dinner and drinks so we went out and got a late dinner. We ended up having a really good conversation about everything you can think of and I didn’t get home until midnight. It was a great day all around and was excited to get to bed. I had to be up at 6am for my 7am coaching session on Thursday morning so I had asked Steph to give me a wake up call at 6 to make sure I was awake lol.

Thanks for reading!

Until tomorrow,
